The International Advisory Committee (IAC) Meeting for the Korea-4GSR Project (Korea Multi-Purpose Synchrotron Radiation Facility Construction Project: 다목적방사광가속기구축사업)

The International Advisory Committee (IAC) Meeting for the Korea 4th-Generation Synchrotron Radiation (4GSR) Project will be held at the KBSI Ochang Center, Korea, from November 5 to 6, 2025.
The meeting is jointly hosted by the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) and Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL).

The IAC, comprising 13 distinguished members from leading accelerator and beamline facilities around the world, will provide strategic guidance and independent evaluation on the current progress and future direction of the 4GSR Project.
The committee includes experts from institutions such as DESY, ANL, BNL, SSRF, SPring-8, ALBA, SOLEIL, Sogang University, and IBS, representing both accelerator (AC) and beamline (BL) domains.

Over the two-day program, the committee will review project status, discuss key technical challenges, and share perspectives on scientific utilization and international collaboration strategies for the 4GSR facility.

Following the meeting, the IAC will prepare a summary report outlining recommendations and priorities for the next phase of the project.
These outcomes will be incorporated into the ongoing design, implementation plans, and the long-term roadmap of KBSI’s accelerator and beamline development initiatives.

Launched to establish Korea’s next-generation synchrotron light source, the 4GSR Project aims to provide world-class photon-science infrastructure supporting cutting-edge research in materials science, biology, and semiconductor technology.
This national endeavor seeks to enhance global competitiveness in large-scale research facilities and strengthen international cooperation with major synchrotron centers worldwide.
